OBTAINING A PANAMA DRIVERS LICENSE
Here is current information sent to me by a client about the procedures for an Expat to obtain a drivers license:
As a foreigner, you can drive in Panama legally for up to 90 days with a foreign drivers license. Stay longer than 90 days and you need to have a Panama drivers license. Follow the Procedure below. Expect all of this to take 2 days.

Flood in my apartment!
After a rare night out until 1 AM, I came home to a flooded apartment! The small plastic tube feeding the toilet water tank had sprung a leak affecting my bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and laundry. In Panama, we separate coverage for "Structure" and "Contents". In order to apply for structure coverage we need:
1. $$$ value of structure (not including land). A recent "avaluo" (appraisal) or pics will help.
2. Name of insured (Owner)? Is the policy to be issued in your name or that of a Corp. or Foundation?
Panama Honeowners Contents Coverage-How to Apply?
In order to issue coverage for the Muli-risk Homeowners contents coverage, we will need:
1. $$$ value of the contents? Furniture, appliances, electronic equipment, artwork, jewelry
2. Exact address of the residence? Name of the insured...should be issued in your name or name of renter.

Another bureaucratic step to obtain insurance coverage here in Panama. According to the new Panama financial regulations, all insurance companies are compelled to maintain basic information in their files about their personal or corporate customers to prevent use of insurance policies to launder $$$.
Panama Life Ins, how to apply!
In order to quote Panama Life Insurance, we will need your date of birth, do you smoke? If the coverage is for a mortgage, we will also need the term (# of years) of the loan.
Most lending institutions in Panama will require Life insurance to guarantee payment if you die before the loan is repaid. The policies must be issued by Panama licensed companies..
